Spangler Nature Preserve was acquired thanks to the Clean Ohio Conservation Fund grants program managed by the Ohio Public Works Commission. The Clark County Park District was able to purchase the Leadingham farm south of the Estel Wenrick Wetlands, expanding the nature preserve to over 300 acres. The newly planted Preserve opened in 2014 with nearly two miles of walking trails through the prairie. It is flourishing with over 200 identified plant species, including the endangered Eastern Prairie Fringe Orchid, which blooms proudly among the vibrant flora.

The Spangler Nature Preserve also encompasses property acquired on both sides of Spangler Road by the B-W Greenway through Clean Ohio Conservation Fund grants that was then turned over to the Park District. A parking lot was installed on the southwest side of Spangler Road and future hiking trails will provide public access to these new areas.
